UAE announces 30-day visa relief for residents and visitors after travel disruptions
Eligible individuals can adjust status or depart without penalties
ABU DHABI – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced a 30-day grace period for individuals affected by regional flight disruptions, offering them a final opportunity to regularise their legal status or exit the country without facing overstay penalties.
The measure applies to those previously exempted from fines due to exceptional circumstances linked to travel disruptions in the region.
The initiative, announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP), reflects the country’s continued efforts to balance regulatory compliance with humanitarian considerations. The grace period began on June 10, 2026, and will remain in effect until July 9, 2026, giving affected individuals a one-month window to take action.

During this period, eligible individuals may either adjust their residency or employment status within the UAE or depart the country through standard procedures without incurring penalties. The ICP clarified that no additional application is required, streamlining the process for those impacted
The move is designed to ensure legal compliance while offering flexibility after regional conditions stabilised.
Authorities noted that the decision marks the end of exceptional exemptions previously granted due to disrupted travel conditions.
Earlier relief
In March 2026, the ICP had issued a broader exemption from overstay fines for visa holders, exit permit holders, and residents whose visas were cancelled but were unable to leave due to airspace closures and flight suspensions beginning February 28, 2026. That earlier decision was introduced to protect individuals from financial burdens arising from circumstances beyond their control and was framed as part of the UAE’s humanitarian approach during emergencies.
With regional stability now restored, the ICP said the exceptional waiver conditions are no longer required, prompting the introduction of this final grace period for affected groups.
The authority has urged all concerned individuals to follow official channels for updates and complete any necessary procedures within the stipulated timeframe.
